As some of you may know, I have a nonprofit organization that relies on an advisory board to carry out my initiatives; raising awareness about autism.

As I attempted to complete this questionnaire, I answered the questions as the Executive Director who interacts with an advisory board on a monthly basis which is slightly different than managing a staff on a daily basis. However, I did find the questions outlined in the Organizational Diagnosis Questionnaire to be applicable to my organization.

Based on the results, my organization is optimal functioning. In psychology, this term is described as an area of study that focuses on understanding how individuals become the best that they can be as well as how they may achieve their personal potentials. I agree because the purpose of my organization has clear objectives and the values are summarized in the mission statement. (See attached).

Rewards reigned supreme (4.8), followed by Family Oriented (3.6) and Attitude For Change (3.4) which were the highest scores. If my calculations are accurate this would be a viable assessment of my organization.

A Reward is indicative of seeing the fruits of your labor. For example, I enjoy receiving emails from parents who share, that I am a role model because of the way I advocate for my son. Or they feel inspired to create opportunities for their children as I have for my son. Jeremiah who aspires to have a career in culinary while not letting autism get in his way.

As I restructure my nonprofit, my goal is to create a family oriented environment. This type of environment produces high-performance teams and a family approach that emphasizes trust and values. Having attitude for change is equally important.

Attitudes have three main components: cognitive, effective and behavioral. According to the article, "Does Your Organization Need an Attitude Change?" suggests that an attitude adjustment is often the pivot point for changing an organization's behaviors and relationships in order to survive and thrive in a rapidly changing industry.

True leadership is about inspiring and enabling your staff to achieve greatness. We as leaders and/or business owners must possess these cognitive aspects of attitudes in order to see our organizations flourish and not be opposed to change.
