Reflective Essay
- Watch a full episode of PBS's Art:21 - Art in the 21. Century.
Each episode is about an hour, focuses on a theme and showcases about 3-4 contemporary artists.
- Write an essay in which you reflect on the art of the contemporary artists showcased in the Art:21 episode you viewed.
- DESCRIPTION (Half a page): Write a short summary of the episode in your own words. Describe the work the artists in the episode make AND explain the artists' conceptual interests. Make sure to state which episode (the theme and season) you watched in the description.
- INTERPRETATION (1 page):
• What was most interesting or relevant to you about the episode? Why?
• What connections can you make to art or artists you learned about in class?
• What connections can you make to your life?
• Did the artists challenge your ideas about what can be considered art in the 21st century or did they affirm your beliefs? Why or why not?
• Provide SPECIFIC examples from the episode in your essay to support your interpretation. DO NOT simply make factual statements. Use the facts to support your statements.
- OUTCOME (Half a page): What did your learn from the episode and how will it affect your future appreciation of art?
- 2 pages, double-spaced, 12pt Cambria font, 1-inch margins.
