Answers should be about 2 pages for each question, provocative, insightful, and reference class readings. In addition to the content of answers, presentation always matters.

1. Introducing the course

a. Explain vigilant interaction theory. How does empirical support for VIT provide empirical support for a communication-based study of group decision making?

b. Explain the human-resource philosophy to the significance of meetings. Contrast this philosophy with the ways meetings are usually conducted. Provide examples from your work life.

2. Groupthink

a. Janis identifies some "tell-tale" signs of groupthink in some rather large world events. Tell the story of one of your own group work experiences that identifies some symptoms of groupthink. Be sure to be specific and connect your experience to the definitions of groupthink and its symptoms explicitly.

b. Explain how directive leadership can reduce team learning. How might a good facilitative leader avoid such a reduction in team capacity?
