An important cultural influence in your life

"The main cultural influence I've had, and probably everyone my age has had, is being exposed to cellphones and the internet. We are able to reach anyone within seconds. In contrast, when my mom was in college she had to use a payphone to reach her parents. If she wanted to hang out with her friends she could not just shoot them a text "Hey, do you wanna hang out?" She would have to knock on her friend's doors to go and ask. If her friend wasn't there, they weren't hanging out that day because there was no way to reach where her friend was. By being exposed to cellphones and the internet, your psychosocial development will be affected. Psychosocial development deals with emotions, personality, and social relationships. The category that will be affected the most is your social relationships. For a long time, it has been a debate whether or not cellphones are making people less social. Nowadays, you might see a group of people out to eat, however they're all staring down at their phones. Why is that? Ever since being exposed to cellphones, people forgot about the best kind of interactions--real life human interactions. If none of us had never been exposed to cellphones or the internet there would be a lot more real-life socializing. You would see more people in the libraries doing research to figure out an answer to a problem instead of just googling it. If we weren't exposed to the internet, all of us wouldn't even be in this class right now."
