Adult Learning Models and the Movies

It's a Wonderful Life (1946) is a classic family movie that many people watch around the winter holidays year after year. The main character is George Bailey, a man with dreams of leaving his small town and traveling the world. However, the high value he places on traveling the world is challenged by a series of unforeseen difficulties that only he can address. Each time it seems George can leave the small town, he becomes engaged in an emotionally intense situation. He falls in love with his childhood sweetheart, raises wonderful children, and leads a "wonderful life." However, it is not until George sees what life would have been like had he left his small town to travel the world that he truly understands and appreciates how fortunate he is.
