Adequate Progress

Explore the websites listed in the assigned readings for the week. In addition, using the GCU Library databases, find credible, peer-reviewed articles that focus on laws and educating children with disabilities.

Locate a minimum of five articles and develop a PowerPoint presentation of at least 10-15 slides that includes:

1. A definition of the meaning of adequate progress.

2. Court cases that have addressed this subject.

3. How school districts measure adequate progress.

4. How school districts are held accountable.

5. Concerns and challenges that may arise regarding adequate progress in the schools.

6. Also, outline how you as a teacher will keep documentation to determine adequate progress for your students.

Slide notes, background materials, etc. are required to be submitted to the instructor as well as the final project.

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and a reference slide should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Write a reflection journal of 300-350 words that addresses the following

Weekly Journal

1. Synthesize and integrate the key points in the current and previous readings. Describe an "Aha!" moment (an epiphany) you had while reading the text and/or the articles or a time when you had to stop and evaluate what was being said.

2. Based upon your experience in education, how might you apply this content to a classroom and instruction?

Main Points:

1) You can list the five main points from the reading as a list. You do not need to go into significant detail for each one because most of your journal should be your application of the material.

2) Here is an example: Cultural and linguistic diversity impact special education because students can be misdiagnosed as having a disability when, in actually, they are just different. It is important to remember that difference is not a disability, and educators need to be exceptionally careful when evaluating a student for a disability if he/she has a native language other than English or is from a minority culture.
