A separate step exists for competitor /internal assessment and analysis. Given the concept of a distinct competency, why is it important to do a thorough and careful analysis of your potential competitors at the same time that this is done for your SBU (based on each KFDC identified in Exhibit 2)? (KFDC's in exhibit 2: analysis of the segments external environment, competitor assessment & analysis, business level internal assessment & analysis. In addition, why is it especially important that this is done for each KFDC before making a final determination about the internal environment of the SBU in Exhibit 5? (KDFC's in exhibit 5: internal assessment & analysis). Please answer from a strategic thinking viewppint.
