Based on the readings in Garland, give one (or a few) theoretical interpretation(s) of the practice(s) in question. What alternatives to this/these practices might exist? Be specific.
Are these alternatives in practice elsewhere? If so, describe in detail where, how, and what outcomes have manifested as a result.
