1) Compare the following two readings: CDC's Whitepaper on infectious diseases and Traube's, et al article on HIV/AIDS theories. In what ways do they differ? Which areas should healthcare policies focus on (theories or the SDH) to reduce/eliminate HIV/AIDS prevalence and mortality?

2) This week synthesize your knowledge of leadership / management, hospital departments, and service lines to discuss your assigned department in relation to either theONCOLOGY, CARDIAC, ORTHO, or MOTHER / BABY SERVICE LINE

Explain their: 1. Their role in the development, design and support of a key service line (define which from the list above) ask yourself the tough questions if you were setting up a new service line and were a manager of a SUPPORT DEPARTMENT what would you need to do in order to support this new endeavor (volume, technology, locations?) and 2. How through leadership and human resource management the department can support a service line at implementation and on-going.

As you think through these issues please consider the financials, diversity, leadership / management styles, customer relationship management, technologies, and other unique opportunities that would arise in a real world project planning, design, and engagement.

3) Given your readings this week, we will examine how human population growth causes "suburban sprawl." Answer the following (you may have to do some external research):

• Define suburban sprawl and describe how human population growth causes it.

• List the negative, environmental impacts caused by suburban sprawl.

• Design a study on how suburban sprawl impacts songbird diversity. Be sure to include the following: your hypothesis, your IV and DV, and briefly describe your experimental methods. How many replicates will you include (looking at one yard or neighborhood is not a sufficient sample size)? What controls will be necessary?

4) Population growth is critical to environmental change. IPAT (from both Week 1 and 2 readings) is an equation that describes four variables that interact to produce environmental change:

Impact = population × affluence × technology (or I = P × A × T)

Based on your knowledge of IPAT, answer these questions:

• Given this equation, what drives environmental decline?

• Compare the environmental impact of the U.S. against any developing country country (try to calculate or find calculations for the actual "I" values); explain what factors contribute to these two different environmental impact factors (this will require external research-avoid repeating your peers' choice of a developing nation).
