Case Study :

Ms. Upton reported several symptoms from the cause of her problems. Ms. Upton have symptoms of chronic depression, sexual abuse, memory loss, poor sleeping habits, nightmares and difficult concentrating. After reading the case study on Ms. Upton, I have diagnosed the client with quite a fewdiagnoses. Ms. Upton diagnosis are: Dissociative amnesia 300.12 (F44.0), major depression296.23 (F32.2), obsessive compulsive disorder 300.3 (F42), and PTSD 309.81 (F43.10).

Ms. Upton severe from post-traumaticstressdisorders. Although, she doesn't recall being sexually abused by her father, there's a possibility that its true. Dissociative amnesia involves the sudden partial or total loss of important personal information or memory loss of important personal information or memory of specific even following a traumatic event or stressful circumstance (Sue, Sue, Sue &Sue, 2014). Ms. Upton terminated that she was sexually abused, which is an example of localized amnesia. She doesn't recall a painful or disturbing event.

She reported little memory between the ages 7 and 13 years old. Her response for her amnesia was because nothing important happened during that time frame and that's why she don't remember anything. Although, she doesn't recall being sexually abused by her father. Her sister reported sexual touching when Ms. Upton was 13 years old. Law enforcement wasn't involved. Instead, there was intervention imposed and an apology from her father.

Post-traumatic stress disorder is characterized by flashbacks, hypervigilance, avoidance and symptoms that last more than one month. She reported that she had recurrent nightmares of a man chasing her and she couldn't escape. Post traumatic stress disorder also indicates avoidance of thoughts, feelings and physical consciousness,as well as objects that are associated with the trauma. Having problems remembering the traumatic event, feeling emotionally numb, and being unable to be joyful. Her dismissing the possibility of her being sexually abuse has caused her so much stress.

Her symptoms are showing as if she is suffering from some type of trauma. She reported being sad numerous of times. Her feeling sad and alone made her emotionally numb. The smell of alcohol made her feel sick and stomach ache. I believe that her sickness come from when her father sexually abused he was under the influence of alcohol. However, there was evidence of strained relationship between her father and herself due to sexual abuse. As a result, this cause Ms. Upton to have difficult intimacy with men.

Ms. Upton have symptoms of major depression. She reported,I'm tired of always being sad and alone. Major depression a period involving severe depression symptoms that have impaired functioning for at least two full weeks (Sue, Sue, Sue, & Sue, 2014). Depression has caused her to have suicidal thoughts as well as attempting to kill herself by self-cutting.

Her seeing her family triggers her to have suicidal thoughts and self-cutting. She also reported, repeating counting and singing in her mind, as well as checking door to see if they were locked. Obsessive compulsive disorders occur in the mind and involves mental acts such as praying counting, or repeating words silently (Sue, Sue, Sue, & Sue, 2014).

There are many treatments for dissociative disorders. The treatment doesn't include medication. However, the treatmentsdo include counseling and the goal is to help develop ways of dealing with stress. Keep in mind, dissociative treatment is not always successful.

Antidepressants medication and therapy are effective treatments for post traumatic stress disorder. Medication and psychotherapyare both effective for treating major depression. Medication reduces symptoms from depression and psychotherapy help with coping and reduce risk of relapse. Obsessive compulsive treatment included behavioral therapy, but medication has become more common. Post traumatic stress disorder is treated through stress management combined with medical treatment.
