1. Serves as your response to the Agency on Advanced Research.  An RFP (Request for Proposal) is the document that asks for groups or individuals to respond with their solution to a problem, project or task.  Again, the "problem, project or task" to which you will respond is the topic you choose.  When a city, for example, wants to build a new park or roadway, they put together an RFP so that construction firms, architects and engineers can respond with design ideas and cost (bids).  For example, if you select "global warming" as your topic, you propose in your RFP response the following:  what the problem is, how you plan to study and address it, and what staff and resources you will need to do so.  The RFP response should include the following:

1.    A description of the topic under investigation  - including three sections (with appropriate headings so that they can be included in your table of contents:

1.    What the topic is and general background

2.    How you plan to study and address the topic

3.    A summary of the staff and resources

2.    Import a table from Excel - come up with an initial breakdown of how you will allocate the $3.5 million in funding for three years. The idea here is show your investigations in a simple table.  It is up to you how to organize the costs.  

3.    A table of contents  

4.    Page numbers - including your name and date in the footer of each page.

5.    One diagram (SmartArt) that shows key personnel in your organization.

6.    Variables (see below) listed and briefly discussed (wait on our class on ICPSR data to work on the ICPSR section - 2b. below)

2.    Data and information sources

a.    Find at least three (3) online data sources relevant to your proposal.  These sources can be from government, NGO, private, scholarly or other archives and data repositories.

b.    Select a data source from the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) data archive and select three variables from the dataset that might be useful in understanding your topic.  These three variables should be included, and relevance briefly discussed, in1.
