1. In class we have been talking about major crimes which have been committed with no serious effort to prosecute the perpetrators. Reiman points out that our system of justice is focused on the poor while ignoring the behavior of the rich and powerful who seem to be immune from prosecution when they break the law. The films on 911 and the economic crash clearly show a lack of willingness to seek out the perpetrators and expose them to the public through the justice process.
What is your analysis of why our society resists bringing these people to justice particularly when their actions have been so damaging to such large numbers of the general public in our country and around the world.
2. President Obama, our elected officials and the media agree that justice was done when Osama Bin Ladin was killed. Some argue that justice would have been served if he has been arrested and brought to trial because that would have followed the law. What is your analysis on this from a legal perspective?
