The airline’s president, Fred Goliath, calls the mechanic’s union representative into his office and after describing the company’s truly desperate financial situation, states: “I wish I didn’t have to do this, but I don’t have any other choice if we are going to stay in business. Effective today, we are terminating all health benefits we agreed to in the collective bargaining agreement.” Can he legally do this? Does the union have any recourse? Explain your answer.

2. You are a pilot for Arbitrary Airlines. While performing your preflight inspection, you are approached by the company’s Chief Pilot, who states. “I don’t like the car you drive. You are fired. Give me your ID card and get off the property, now.”

If a union represents the airline’s pilots, do you have any appeal rights? Describe fully.
