1.) Effective Conflict Resolution 500 words

In any profession that deals with people, there will be times when your views and perspectives differ from those of the people with whom you are working. A main focus of professional psychology is working with people, whether they are Instructors, administrators, colleagues, or clients.

As a result, it is likely you will both experience conflict and be expected to resolve conflict as a professional psychologist. Learning to identify and appropriately resolve conflicts that may arise over differences in perspectives is an especially critical skill.

Your personal style of conflict resolution is influenced by past experiences, thoughts and beliefs, and personality. Conflicts may be resolved in different ways depending on the context and the individual attempting to resolve them.

To prepare for this Discussion:

• Search the Internet for "conflict resolution steps."

• Select a website that contains a broadly applicable set of steps for resolving interpersonal conflicts.

• Use those steps to address the following conflict scenario:

Your supervisor at the agency where you work has become increasingly insistent that you work many hours over and above your required working hours.

She has indicated that there is no discussion to be had-you must work the required extra hours in order for your agency to survive. All staff must work overtime, no exceptions. You have family and school obligations that you must meet, and working the additional hours has become very burdensome to you.

You value and need your job, and want to be as helpful as possible. Although your supervisor indicated when these demands first began that they would be temporary, it is now six months since you began having to work many additional overtime hours and see many extra clients.

Your work, family, and schoolwork have all begun to suffer, and you are increasingly frustrated with your supervisor for her approach to managing this organizational need.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a description of the conflict resolution steps identified on the website you selected. Apply each step to the conflict scenario.

Be specific and provide examples that illustrate your personal style and approach to ensure successful conflict resolution. Provide an analysis of one strength and one limitation of the conflict resolution steps you selected. Include any steps you would add and/or delete and explain why.

2.) 500 words

For many military men and women, the actions of war may not be left on the battlefield. Rather, many military men and women may find themselves addressing symptoms of trauma related to their military experience, otherwise known as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

As a result for many returning military, the transition into military duty or civilian life may be a complicated process. Additionally, this transition may also influence the significant relationships of military men and women.

For this Discussion, consider how the presentation of PTSD for active duty military might be complicated by military experience. Using the Learning Resources and current literature, consider how PTSD may also affect significant relationships (e.g., family, spouse, and/or significant others).

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 an explanation of how the presentation of PTSD for active duty military might be complicated by military experience. Then describe how PTSD might influence a military client's transition into civilian life. Finally, explain how PTSD of military clients may affect their significant relationships.

3.) 500 Words

Although grief may be painful, for many individuals, it is a temporary journey of sadness. Yet, for others, grief may be a painful, unending road into despair. With grief there is usually a period of bereavement, more commonly known as a mourning period or sadness experienced from death or separation.

Bereavement may result in temporary psychological distress or despair, or it may manifest into severe and/or reoccurring psychological disorders, such as depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and other anxiety disorders. Additionally, the effects of bereavement may complicate client diagnosis, especially for clients that you may already be treating for other disorders.

For this Discussion, review the week's Learning Resources and current literature to examine how unremitting effects of bereavement may complicate client diagnosis. Select an example from the current literature and Learning Resources where bereavement might present an issue for an existing client. Consider if a psychologist might have to change the original client diagnosis.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief description the example you selected. Then explain how bereavement might complicate a client's diagnosis. Finally, post your position on whether a psychologist must change the client's diagnosis in the example you selected and explain why or why not.

4.)

As a professional psychologist, it is important for you to assess your knowledge, skills, and attitudes on each of the competencies as they pertain to your specific developmental level. As you progress through your academic training, your developmental level will continue to evolve.

Your program of study is designed to help you reach competency benchmarks. These benchmarks assess your readiness to begin practicum and internship. In addition, when you have completed your program, a competency assessment determines your readiness to become an entry-level practitioner and/or apply for advanced credentialing.

Self-assessment is a valuable tool to ensure you are meeting these benchmarks and are aware of your level of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Self-assessment is a common method used by psychology professional's at all developmental levels.

As part of your self-assessment, you relate your readiness in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitudes to the competency Developmental Achievement Levels developed by NCSPP for further self-reflection.

The assignment: (3-4 pages)
