1. Case Study 1: Interviewer's Mistakes

Maureen Lovelace is a nurse manager of the Transitional Care Unit at a large metropolitan area hospital. One of her Registered Nurses retired and a replacement was needed. The position was posted on Indeed.com and Xante Clarke, a Registered Nurse at another hospital, responded to the posting.Maureen Lovelace reviewed Xante's resume and based on her educational background and experience determined she would be a great candidate for the position. The interview was setup and Xante arrived on time, appropriately dressed, and carried a copy of her resume, a pen, note pad, and her RN license with her.

Maureen forgot she had setup the interview and was in a meeting at the time for the interview. Xante was asked Xante to wait for an hour until she was finished with her meeting.Maureen rushed from her meeting to the conference room where Xante was patiently waiting, took off her white coat to reveal a very low cut blouse which had coffee stains in the front.Maureen introduced herself, asked Xante what her name was, asked her to pronounce it again, thanked Xante for coming for the meeting and started with the interview questions.

Here are some of the questions Maureen asked Xante:

1. Sorry, I do not have your resume with me. Do you have an extra one I can review?I did not get a change to review it.

2. You looked like you are from Africa; which part are you from?(Xante was not from Africa, but was born in the United States). She went on to tell Xante about her recent vacation in Africa and how wonderful it was.

3. Do you have children, how old are they and how would they affect you working the night shift?

4. Was there any medical conditions you would like to let me know about? The previous nurse had some medical issues caused by her excessive weight and was unable to do her rounds during her shift. That was a challenge as other nurses had to do it for her.

5. Have you ever have had a wage garnished before?

6. Is that an engagement ring I see?Congratulations! When are you getting married?

At the end of the interview, Maureen thanked Xante for coming and told her she will review her information and contact her in a few days.Maureen then rushed to her 2nd meeting for the day.

The next day Maureen received a thank you note from Xante showing appreciation for the interview.Maureen could not remember what were the main highlights of the interview, but remembered she really liked Xante and thought she would be great for the job and intended to hire her.One week later, Xante called Maureen to find out the status of the job.Maureen vaguely remembered who Xante was, but after speaking to her for a few minutes remembered. Maureen asked Xante to email her resume again, congratulated her on a great interview, that she will start the hiring process, and will hear back from Human Resources regarding the next steps and onboarding process shortly.

2. Identify some things Maureen did wrong, and the possible implications
