1. Be able to draw a plate tectonics diagram. For each item you should be able to give a short description of what it is, and/or what is happening.

For a complete diagram, make sure you know all of the following:

b. Mantle

c. Oceanic crust

f.  Ocean-ocean collision

g. Ocean-continental collision

h. Continental-continental collision

i. Continental-continental divergence

j. Ocean-ocean divergence

k. For f-j also include what forms above them at the crust

l. The locations for the formation of sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks

m. Weathering

n. Erosion

o. Sedimentation

2. Be able to explain what the "ring of fire" is and how it is related to plate tectonics.

3. Be able to identify the minerals that we learned in lab. Focus your attention on the ones that have been mentioned the most and seem to be most prevalent in rocks. (picture, focus on most common (hylite, quartz, book tells=mineral, rock=sedimentary or igneous (identify)

4. You should be able to identify the rocks we learned in lab by the end of the quarter. For this test, I would expect that you can at least classify them as sedimentary, metamorphic or igneous.

5. Be able to explain the 3 types of faults associated with earthquakes. You should be able to draw a diagram of each and explain what is happening.

6. Be able to explain from start to finish what happens during an earthquake. You should be able to include the different wave forms, dangers and scale measurements in your explanation. (earthquake, what happen, how we measure)

7. Be able to explain the 3 types of volcanoes. You should be able to draw a diagram of each and include internal structure, how they form and why. Also explain why some volcanoes are explosive and some are not.

8. Be able to use your knowledge of relative dating to reconstruct an ancient environment and identify the sequence in which events occurred.

9. Be able to explain the process of radiometric dating=how we use, example. You should be able to include descriptions of what isotopes and half-lives are how they are used for measurement and an example (parent, daughter) of a commonly used isotope.

10. Be able to explain what is different about C14 isotope than other isotopes that are commonly used. Also be able to explain why C14 would not be good for dating something that is older than about 60,000 years.
