1. ASSIGNMENT REMIT

1.1 Preamble The purpose of Module 1 is to build a secure foundation for professional practice by helping you to reflect on policies and practices in provision for additional support needs and on the ideas about people, education and the nature of society on which they are based.

For example we will be looking at historical provision for what we now call "additional support needs" not because the history is important of itself - but because it helps us to make sense of current and future provision.

• Describe what systems and structures are in place to provide additional support for learners. (approx. 500 wds)

• Critique how far that establishment has reached in its journey to inclusion and discuss the challenges to fuller inclusion the establishment still faces.

Give specific examples from policy and practice in writing the critique. Include reference to official and academic sources. (approx. 1500 wds)'
