1. What arguments could you give for or against the idea that body language is a science with principles that can be interpreted accurately by specialists?

2. Ethical Issue: Rochelle is a good member of your team. However, you are disturbed that she is constantly promoting her Arbonne beauty products to other members of the team. She shows catalogs and keeps a supply of samples ready to distribute during lunch or after hours. Her desk smells like a perfume counter. During team meetings, she puts an order form on the table. As a team member, what should you do? What if Rochelle were selling Girl Scout cookies?

Deciding on a makeover to grab late-night business was a no- brainer for Denny's. Nearly half of its late-night customers are under 24, and about two thirds are male. Most of these customers are not drop- ping by after work; they are coming from nightclubs or bowling alleys. A trip to Denny's prolongs the party.

Adding to the party scene, Denny's has coaxed several rock bands to help it concoct late-night snacks. One band dreamed up Bacon Cheeseburger Fries (fries topped with beef, cheese, bacon, and onions). In addition, a new Denny's Web site features a rock music blog, and the site encourages folks to vote for the rock band that the food chain should adopt by feeding it free while the band tours.65

Your Task. As a Denny's marketing director, you have been asked to investigate the success of Denny's All-Nighter program to see whether it should be expanded to the entire Southwest region. The vice presi- dent asks you to take on this task alone because it is more efficient and cost effective. Although you are flattered by the offer, you think the task should be tackled by a team of managers. What arguments could you bring to your boss to convince him that a team would be better for this task than a single individual? In teams or individually, prepare a list of points to convince the marketing vice president that a team should tackle this task.
