What are the legal effects of a counter offer?

A 'counter-offer' is simply an offer from the offeree back to the offeror. Counteroffer is a new offer and a rejection of original offer. The legal effect of a counter-offer is to terminate the original offer and substitute the offer of the offeree. What this means in practicality is that if the counter-offer is not accepted, the offeree cannot try to accept the first offer unless it is tendered again by the offeror.

Revocation vs. repudiation?

Repudiation is the refusal to perform an agreement or promise, while revocation is the termination of an offer by notice communicated to the offeree before acceptance. Offers can be revoked anytime before acceptance unless there is an option, Revocation must be communicated to the offeree, Revocation can be communicated in any form as long as it is communicated. However, a contract must be repudiated within a reasonable time after attainting the age of majority (or the contract is binding)
