Research Requirements
Students are required to undertake research on the following essay topic: Professional ethics. Each student will be required to submit milestones to show progress on their reports. Sources you need to use include academic textbooks relevant to the topic (a minimum of three) and a minimum of eight (4-5) academic journals using of EBSCOhost (Business Source and Academic Source Premier), Google Scholar, Emerald and other sources such as websites, and compile a business report. Some of these references are included in the subject outline (refer p5).Note that for each topic selected, you will need to demonstrate research of some recently published journals from 2010- present.
Format and Structure
The Assignment will follow an essay format which means NO headings. Only use an essay plan with headings to structure your essay and then delete the headings prior to submission. Content in an essay has an introduction with aims, followed by analysis of different views or theories outlined in the academic literature.
The essay assessment criteria are listed below:
1. Introduction must include a clear statement of the essay aims and structure
2. Comprehensive discussion of the topic including key concepts from literature
3. Arguments and discussion of contemporary views related to the topic covered from relevant research sourced from a minimum of 8 academic sources including recent journals from 2010-2011
4. Use of essay format which has no headings
5. Conclusion: Clear summary of essay and essay aims
6. Writing using proper academic style and clear language
7. Uses proper academic referencing and citations (e.g. Harvard Reference Style) and also includes a tidy reference list
8. Meets presentation requirements (Refer Carrick reference guide e.g. 1.5 spacing and font size and also has essay format

Content
Some possible content areas that may be included but also can be varied are:
• Introduction: essay aims and purpose
• Definition of ethics and different types of ethics eg. general theories, business ethics and professional ethics
• Discussion of different views about professional ethics and its meaning
• Role of accountants in maintaining professional standards and ethics
• Conclusion
