Requirement: Demonstrate you understand the academic and methodological processes needed to write a literature review that will provide a starting point for your later dissertation.

Do a literature review of at least seven sources that somehow relate to your own business idea.

Please note:

  •  You must choose a minimum of 3 scholarly articles and 4 secondary sources.
  •  Organise your literature review by themes that are clearly relevant to your business concept and discuss the credibility of your secondary sources.
  •  The conclusion discusses the review's implications for your business concept, provides an indication of any identified research gaps, and any changes to your business concept for your dissertation.

Please read these detailed instructions carefully

You can choose any area of business and business concept that you are interested in. Your idea is likely to have been something you have already worked on in your PGDipBE or your GBE701 studies.

You are unlikely to find literature exactly on your business idea. So you need to show you have ‘read around the topic' and discuss what aspect of the literature is relevant, to your own idea.

Scholarly literature can be found on Google Scholar, or databases such as Science Direct, Proquest, Masterfile, and Chapters in books. Secondary research and information can include work by government, industry reports, professional or trade organisations, consultants, journalists and business writers. You may also find other sources.

Organise the review thematically. Do not organise the review as a list of separate sources. You must follow the marking schedule. You must check your assignment for spelling, grammar and sense.

Bullet points and lists should not be used unless the points are fully explained. Quotation marks and paraphrasing should be frequently referenced so it is clear you are using the words and ideas of others'.

Tables and graphs from sources should be clearly labelled.

Length: Approximately 3,000 words (NOT including references).
Please label your electronic file with your name, student ID and GBE701.
Please put your topic, name, Student ID, Course and email address and word count on your assignment's front page.
