Question:

Why was Lincoln elected in 1860? What surprised you?

Examples for answer:

1) Abraham Lincoln was selected as a president on 1860, and he became the president of the United States. This election was such an important presidential election in the American history because when Lincoln became a president, he had the biggest effect to people's lives who lived in America. As it was mentioned in the book, "Lincoln was a successful lawyer which had long been involved in state politics," (Brinkley 366). This means that Lincoln was known as a good person and many people choose him to become a president because they believed that he was going to make America a better country. What surprised me about this subject is how Lincoln made it even worse when he divided the country into two different races which were Northern and Southern, instead of making the country better, he made it worse. Lincoln was the most hated president in the US history because of how he made everything worse and he couldn't even solve any problem and he couldn't do anything positive for the country.

2) Abraham Lincoln was elected as a present on 1860, he was the first Republican to win the presidency. Lincoln was a very successful lawyer who was involved in the politics for a long time. In the book it states, " Lincoln Douglas debates attached enormous crowd and received  wide attention." (Brinkely 366) After that Lincoln was known nationally by the attack on the slavery. What really surprised me is that people from the South and North did not like him. He was the most hated president in the history of the United States. Another thing that surprised me is even after Lincoln was elected the country was divided in two races. Lincoln couldn't solve anything when he was elected. All that happened in his presidency was the separation of the North and South that grow more hate. In my opinion I would think that when we vote for a president we accepts them to solve the problem for the country, Unlike what Lincoln did which was make the problem even worse and divide the country. I was very surprised to see that presidents can not solves problems.

3) Abraham Lincolin was a very successful lawyer during that time. according to the book " Lincoln was a successful lawyer who had long been involved in state politics" page (366). It was very surprising to me that the American people did not care about his life success. as we know the north and the south were in so much problems because of the slavery thing. during the election of 1860, no southern state voted for him. Licolinwas totally against slavery. He was the first Republican and the first president that was very hated. He divided the country into two half." by the time they ended, Lincoln increasingly eloquent and passionate attacks on slavery had made him nationally prominent". Page 366. also it was very surprising that he actually won that election.
