The purpose of this exercise is to produce notes that will help you to

  • Determine what changes in roles and opportunities women sought in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries,
  • Establish the goals they set for themselves to create new roles and opportunities,
  • Assess just how successful they were
  • Determine if there is anything left to be done

At the end of the term, this material will be your source material for the final examination. That means you want to make sure you complete these assignments and keep track of them so you can use them to organize for the final.

Here are questions you will need to answer. You will need to submit your answers to Turnitin and to bring a hard copy to class on the assigned date. Late work will NOT be accepted and this means for both the Turnitin and hard copy requirement.

To complete this assignment, you need a write few words. In other words, you do NOT need to write paragraphs, or essays.

2. Do the actions of these women represent any challenges to patriarchal attitudes and/or the laws of femme covert? Again, be sure to list facts that you will support your position. You want to be careful here to see if there are concrete criticisms of the legal system or just challenges to public opinion.

3. If there are challenges to tradition, do we see concrete goals and strategies for changing traditional roles and /or changing the law? If so, what are the goals and strategies?

4. What facts about the era stand out to you? What do you think makes them interesting to you? Did the essay add anything that was not in the textbook?

5. List the primary sources are identified in this essay.
