In this homework we will be looking at bill that was introduced in the Idaho Legislature. The purpose of the exercise if to provide experience on how to read proposed legislation and extract information related to the legislation.

Step 01. Start by going to the website for theIdaho Legislature and specifically you will be going to review House Bill 202You may wish to review the material provided in class to have an understanding of where certain information is located to answer the prompts.

Please answer the following questions:

a. When was the bill introduced?

b. What committee was it introduced into on the house side?

c. When did the bill receive a do pass from the committee

d. When was it passed on the house floor and what was the vote?

e. When was it introduced in the Senate?

f. What committee was it placed in when it went to the Senate?

g. When did it pass the Senate and what was the vote?

h. When was the Senate version approved by the House and what was the vote?

i. When was the bill delivered to the Governor to sign?

j. Did the Governor sign the bill and make it a law?

Step 02. Now you will look at some of the detail of the bill itself:

a. Who was the contact person for the bill?

b. What is the potential Fiscal Impact of the legislation?

c. In summary what does the bill intend to accomplish?

d. What is the language change on lines 26 - 31 on page 1 accomplish? What is really changing from the present law?

e. What is the language change on lines 16- 29 on page 3 accomplish? What is really changing from the present law?

f. What is the language change on lines 42- 48 on page 3 accomplish? What is really changing from the present law?

g. Do you read the changes on lines 48 -50 Page 3 and lines 1 to 7 page 4 as more restrictive or less restrictive for person involved in the crime?

h. What flexibility does the change on line 19-21 Page 6 provide?

i. Generally what additional requirements are put on law enforcement agencies in lines 40 - 50 Page 7 and line 1-11 Page 8?

j. Will you be able to see the report if you wished?
