The Johannesburg Declaration on Sustainable Development was adopted at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), sometimes referred to as Earth Summit in 1995, at which the Plan of Implementation of the World Summit on Sustainable Development was also agreed upon. Since then, there has been a drive by governments and other pressure groups worldwide for firms, industries and individuals to be conscious of the need to factor sustainable development goals into their operations. PowerMax electronics Company Limited is a renowned Company Operating in Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The company was established in June, 2007. PowerMax electronics imports a wide range of slightly used home and office electrical appliances, electronic entertainment devices and communication gadgets such as: fridges, microwave ovens, video games, television sets, radio sets, phones, to mention but a few. The company imports its products from Dubai, China and the United States of America (USA). The company also offers repair services to its clients and customer. Customers are so happy with the designs, durability and portability of the company's products however, the energy inefficiency oi most of their products remains their major concern

The Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O), Dr. Pamli Osval Maxwells is so conscious of the wellbeing of the society in which they operate. According to him, designing and implementing various corporate social responsibility programs for the society has really contributed to the enhanced corporate brand. Some of the social amenities they have provided from 2012 - 2016 to the society include: Toilet facilities; provision of computers to the schools in the community to aid teaching and learning; and the provision of boreholes for portable water for the community. Irrespective of the extent of sharing the company's value with the society, the environmental Protection Agency(EPA) intermittently urges them to promote a sustainable environmental management in areas of their operations. The small refuse dump behind the premises of the company serves as an electronic waste dump for the company for the past 10 years. According to the C.E.O, these wastes are intermittently burnt at night in order to reduce the size of the waste. The EPA intends to sanction the company if better steps are not taken by management of the company to well manage their electronic waste. The Marketing officer, Mrs. Yvonne Christian thinks the demand of the EPA is outrageous and blames their outsourced waste collection and disposal company- ZoomZeebra Company Limited for shirking their responsibility. The C.E.O however feels obliged to abide by the regulations of the EPA in order to avoid any form of sanctions which may have a very negative effect on the firm.

The company has employed about 85 staff from diverse cultural, religious and gender backgrounds who serve as drivers, security, marketers, procurement officers, accountants, Human Resource Manager, engineers and other administrative duties. Since 2010, the company has experienced a high labour turnover which most staff attribute to unsatisfactory working conditions such as: unhealthy working environment, unsatisfactory compensation for their services and a conscious effort by management to prevent union formation by staff of the organization. The C.E.O has appointed Mr. Francis Cliff as a Procurement Superintendent of the company to well collaborate with other managers of the company to formulate strategies that will promote diversity purchasing and fair trade to all staff and suppliers whilst continuing with the yearly corporate social responsibility programs of the company.
