Instructions

Step 1: Choose a listed company starting with the first letter of your last name. For example, if your last name is Buffett then you may choose Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBY).

Step 2: Download the O-S Checklist Template from D2L. Also you may want to read the article, "Overcoming Cognitive Biases: A Heuristic for Making Value Investing Decisions" for an overview of the approach.

Step 3: Get all the data you need to fill up the "Data Input" worksheet of the O-S Checklist Template. You can get the data from www.mergentonline.com, if you are accessing the site from the campus. Otherwise you have to go through the library site - www.lib.unb.ca. You may need some data from www.gurufocus.com as discussed in the class. Consult myself or a librarian at HWK to show you how to access library materials offsite.

Step 4: Once you are done with the data entry, the rest of the worksheets will be done for you.

Step 5: Use these worksheets to analyze your pair of companies in a single A4 page. Your analysis should include an overview of the company, ratio analysis, valuation and susceptibility to bankruptcy measures. Remember the key here are: durable competitive advantage and margin of safety.

Step 6: Finally, you need to pass a judgment whether to buy the company or put it on a watch list.

Submission: Submit your completed O-S Checklist template along with your analysis through the appropriate Dropbox folder every week.
