Financial Analytics for Managerial Decisions Assessment - Case Study

CASE SUMMARY

You have been provided with a case study entitled " Modern Agricultural Farm: Budgeting and Control". The Modern Agricultural Farm (MAF) located in Pakistan produces two main categories of crops:one for human consumption andthe other for animal consumption (fodder). In the first category are crops such as wheat, cotton, sunflower while in the second category are crops such as sarson, maize and barseem.

You are provided with more information about the various crops which include which season they are planted, acreage planted and financial information that allows you to calculate revenue figures, cash receipts, cash payments and contribution margins. Also make reference to figures in Exhibit 1and Exhibit 2.

I have embedded below an Excel file "Modern agriculture student worksheet.xls" which you are required to use to do the necessary calculations. Please note that when you open the file check and access a number of worksheets provided with valuable information.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Using the information in the case and performing analytics in the Excel spreadsheet provided,

(a) Determine cash receipts and payments for the 6 months from November 2010 to April 2011.

(b) Determine the cash balances at the end of eachmonth and,

(c) With the help of a graph and in a maximum of 500 words explain the situation faced by the farm with regards to cash balances and suggest how this can be resolved.

2. Prepare a budget for the period November 2011 to October 2012 (full year) from the data given and in a maximum of 400 words explain how this helps to improve control on farm operations.
