Data was gathered on a group of ninth grade students. Some students have been diagnosed with a learning disability.  All students were measured on conduct, attention, hyperactivity, CPT, and FCAT math & verbal

1.  Using "gender" as your independent variable and "conduct" as your dependent variable:

a.  State the null hypotheses two-tailed.

b.  State the alternative hypotheses two-tailed.

c.  Test your hypothesis using the Independent Samples T Test procedure. (copy and paste group statistics).

d. Are the variances assumed to be equal?

e.  Write a conclusion detailing the results (in APA style).

2  The researchers would like to take the sample of 48 students and recode them into two different groups based on their hyperactivity index scores. (HYPINDX).

  1. Recode the "HYPINDX" variable into a different variable "HYPGROUP" so that children with a HYPINDX score greater than or equal to 60 are designated as "1" which will be labeled "HYPER".
  2. Recode also so that children with a HYPINDX score less than or equal to 59 are designated as "2" which will be labeled "NON_HYPER".

(a)  Create a pie chart for your new variable. Make sure the groups are properly labeled.       

3.  Using your new variable "HYPGROUP" as an independent variable and "CPT" as your dependent variable perform the following analysis. (CPT is a computerized measure of continuous performance during a Go/No-go task.

a. State the null hypotheses two-tailed.

b. State the alternative hypotheses two-tailed.

c. Test your hypotheses using the Independent samples T Test procedure. (copy and paste group statistics).

d. Can equal variances be assumed?

e. Write a conclusion detailing the results (in APA style).

4. Compute an average FCAT score which is the mean of FCATV (verbal) and FCATM (math) into a new variable called "FCATAVG". Copy and paste a histogram with normalized curve.

5. Perform a regression analysis. The question is which variable "CPTscore, conduct, or inattentiveness" best predicts the average FCAT score which you computed in question # 4?

6. If conduct was measured again at the end of the semester, and you wanted to compare the two scores, what type of statistical test would you use?
