Class presentation

Students should regard the class presentation as an opportunity to develop an important workplace skill as well as an opportunity to prepare a particular area of the unit in more detail. Marks for class presentations will be determined by the lecturer based upon their perception of the presentation as having achieved, or otherwise, its purpose - this overall purpose being to inform and interest the class, showing capability with the requisite area of the law and an ability to communicate and engage. Presentations, which will be allocated by your lecturer, should be approximately 10 minutes and a maximum of 6 PowerPoint slides may be used. Examples of the type of matters that may be comprised in any discretionary assessment of a presentation include:

Focus on the issues raised by the task (addressing the topic)
Accuracy of material used
Drawing conclusions and forming opinions in relation to the issues
Structure
Clarity (of content and argument; and of delivery)
Content covered at the appropriate level
Evidence of research
Use of resources or aids
Showing and engendering interest in the area
Timing (particularly as to the duration of the presentation)
Currency of the material used
Presence (the ability to control or manage the presentation format and audience)
Originality
Creativity
Presentation topics differ, accordingly the relationship between the various indicia of a successful presentation will vary for each presentation - some presentations will have more relevance to current issues than others, some may need a detailed examination of problems or cases, some topics may be narrow or require an historical analysis, others may be broad and raise the inclusion of diverse source material.
