Business Pitch Analysis

Objective:

The purpose of this assignment is two-fold:

1) Sharpen your analytical skills. By watching and listening to a variety of startup pitches, you will gain a better understanding of what constitutes a good pitch, where the gaps are, what critical information was omitted, how persuasive the speakers were, etc. Analyze the pitches as if you were a potential investor.

2) Improve your own presentation skills. What techniques can you take away from presentations to make yourself a better presenter? Work on your story-telling skills perhaps? Memorize your pitch? How can you better articulate your message? What technology tools can you use to strengthen your positioning?

Requirements:

Watch three (3) startup pitches and analyze the delivery (the message, the content, professionalism, persuasiveness, etc.).

Each presentation should be approx. 2-5 minutes in length and each from a different source. Avoid selecting pitches just because they are short; choose pitches that you have an interest in. (Keep in mind the shorter ones may be more difficult to analyze.)

Suggested online sources:

Demo Day Pitches

Y Combinator

Tech Stars

3-Day Startup

Shark Tank episodes

List the pros and cons of this pitch. Consider both the business idea itself and the delivery.

PROS

CONS

If you were an investor, would you invest in this company? Why or why not? If not, include what hesitations you might have or what additional information you would like to know.

Name one thing/technique that you learned from this pitch presentation that you can use in future presentations to make you a better, more persuasive presenter. Explain.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), how would you rate this pitch: ____
