Available Technology

The use of software and technology is becoming more apparent in the courtroom. As courtrooms update their equipment for the new, state-of-the-art technology, you will find that not all courtrooms are created equally. Equipment can be complex, expensive, and difficult to administer, which makes each courtroom a unique experience upon entry.

After viewing the Virtual Law Office Experience video The Electronic Courtroom (1:21)-http://media.pearsoncmg.com/ph/chet/chet_vloe/TLO/VLOE_15_1/shell.html, complete the following:

A supervising attorney will be trying a case in the local state courthouse. He is not familiar with the multimedia facilities that are in place or what equipment may be brought into the courtroom.

Prepare a list, by courtroom, of the multimedia tools available in each courtroom of the local state courthouse.

Determine whether the court offers or requires any training to use these items.

Find out whether attorneys can bring in their own equipment, and if so, what the procedure is.

Determine whether there is an IT or technology resource person in the courthouse, and if so, what their contact information is.

Your assignment should be a maximum of two pages (counting body text only, not title or reference pages) in double-spaced, one-inch margins on all sides.

Use this assignment to think of technology resources for legal research, people, and methods for handling each phase of the EDRM process.

What possible issues can the use of multimedia present?
