Part I

The NASDAQ on-line resource site. Play around with this site. It contains a substantial amount of free information about all publicly traded companies. All you need to do is insert a stock "ticker" into one of the boxes available. You will have a variety of options available to you to learn more about the five companies listed below.

Once you have explored this site and read some of the additional information the site has about the five companies below, select something of interest to you about each company to comment on. For example, can you determine what analysts are saying about any of the companies? What are some of the risks or opportunities revealed in the materials / data provided via the NASDAQ site? Has any event occurred in any of the companies recent past worth mentioning? (e.g. a stock split?; an announcement of a merger or acquisition?; a stock repurchase announcement?; a new product or service?) A single sentence or short paragraph for each company should do, but if you would like to delve more deeply into this site, please feel free to do so.

Please note, some of the sections of this site can only be accessed if you pay a fee. Do not submit any personal information or agree to subscribe to the fee services available without further investigation of this and other on-line stock research resources.

Part II

The list of five companies below was compiled on the basis of their familiarity to you all. Go to each of their company web sites to examine the information contained in each. Because these are such large companies, each web site will contain a link titled "Investor Relations" or something similar. If you click on each company name below you should be taken directly to their respective "investor" web page.

Starbucks

Using the NASDAQ site and/or each company's investor page, answer each of the questions below. You must prepare a spread sheet with columns for each question.

1. From the information available for each company, what is each company's stock "ticker" or symbol and what stock market exchange is each company's common stock traded on?

2. What is the current stock price for each company's stock? (Please include the date and time of the day when you record this price.)

3. What are the total numbers of common stock shares available on the market for each company?

4. What is the total market capitalization of each company? (This can be calculated by multiplying the current stock price by the number of common stock shares on the market.

5. For each company identify whether or not they pay dividends and if they do, how much?

6. From what you can tell, has each company been profitable over the last 4 quarters (1 year)?

7. From what you can tell, would you invest in each company's stock? Why or why not?
