Assignment Title: Financial Information and Analysis

The Case -

A friend who is a director of a graduate recruitment company has been asked to consider being a director on the board of The Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR). She has asked your advice as to the financial viability of the organisation in preparation for her interview. She has sent you the accounts of the organisation for 2014 and 2016.

Required:

Based on the financial statements of the company for the last four years, write a report to your friend to provide her with a full picture of the company's financial position. Your report should address the followings:

  • Profitability and performance of AGR
  • The efficient managing of the resources under the control of the company
  • The liquidity and long-term solvency of the company.

Suggest questions that she might ask at interview to clarify any items from the accounts which need further explanation.

Assessment Guidelines - 1500 Word Report

  • You are expected to demonstrate an awareness of relevant concepts underpinning financial analysis.
  • You will need to produce comprehensive analysis of the financial position of the company in question as well as critically reflecting on the various views/ debates, arguments and criticisms.
  • In addition, you are expected to show theoretical depth and breadth as well as extensive reading on

financial analysis.

  • You will need to show a critical awareness of financial resources and leadership skills, competencies and abilities and offer constructive analysis on their appropriateness, relevance and usefulness in a contemporary and competitive business environment
  • You must provide adequate references and appropriately use the Harvard Referencing System
  • The overall report must be underpinned by a clear structure.

  • Clear introduction to the report giving an outline of the main areas and the aim of the report.
  • Table of content.

Profitability and Performance -

  • Calculation of suitable profitability and performance ratios for the four years.
  • Use of graphs and tables to show trends
  • Analysis of the results and implications for your friend

Management of Resources

  • Calculation of suitable resource management ratios for the four years.
  • Use of graphs and tables to show trends
  • Analysis of the results and implications for your friend

Liquidity and Solvency

  • Calculation of suitable liquidity and long term performance ratios for the four years.
  • Use of graphs and tables to show trends
  • Analysis of the results and implications for your friend

  • Suggested questions at interview which demonstrate an understanding of the accounts and seek clarification on issues of concern.

Conclusions and Recommendations

  • A brief summary of the main findings of your report.
  • A clear recommendation to your friend as to whether to accept the invitation.
