Assignment 1: Ethics Game Reflection and Integrated Assignment Plan

Assignment 1.1: Ethics Game Reflection

Assignment 1 has two parts: the Ethics Game Reflection and the Integrated Assignment Plan.

The Ethics Game gives you the opportunity to consider many ethical issues that you are a) likely to face when applying for a sales position and b) likely to encounter in a typical sales position. The game is in two parts, I and II, and consists of ten situations where you are asked what you would do. Four solutions are offered for each mini-case; there may be only one correct solution or there may be several that have merit, though only one will be the best choice.

The Ethics game quiz, Parts I and II, is available in Quizzes on the left navigation pane. For each part, you are allowed to take as much time as you need or save the test and resume later, and you may take the quiz as many times as you like. At the end of each quiz, you can save and submit your answers, and then click ‘Okay' on the bottom right corner to see how you scored and see the correct answers.

In the game, you will score points for the ethical value of the decisions you make, but your score on the mini-case questions is for interest purposes only, and is NOT included in your grade for the Ethics Game Reflection assignment. The graded portion of your first assignment is based on your reflection of the game regardless of your score.

A. Play the Game

Part I: Ethics Game

In Part I, you will need to assume the role of a candidate for the position of account executive at the Park Inn International Convention Centre.

1. Open the PDF file "Partnership Selling: A Role Play/Simulation for Selling Today."

2. Read the position description for the Convention Centre Account Executive on page 8 of the PDF file before working through the mini-cases in the Ethics Game.

3. Work through the five mini-cases provided in Ethics Game: Quiz 1

4. After you complete each case, open the answers and score your response. Each choice is allotted a score and a rationale is provided.

5. Calculate your overall score.

6. Keep a record of your answers along with your score and rationale for each so that you can refer to it as you complete the graded part of this assignment.

Part II: Mini Cases

In Part II, you will complete a textbook reading and then work through five mini-cases.

1. Carefully read Chapter 5 of your textbook.

2. Work through the five mini-cases provided in Ethics Game: Quiz 2.

3. After you complete each case, open the answers and score your response. Each choice is allotted a score and a rationale is provided.

4. Calculate your overall score.

5. Keep a record of your answers along with your score and rationale for each that you can refer to as you complete the graded part of this assignment.

B. Complete the Reflective Assignment

In a report of approximately 800-1000 words, document your reflections on the Ethics Game. See the "Assignment Structure" section for details on how to format your paper.

1. Describe your personal code of ethics using the decisions that you made in the mini-cases as a guideline. Reflect on why you have adopted those standards. Review the mini-cases, questions, and answer key to assist you in your reflection.

2. Did you find the questions in the Ethics Game easy or difficult to answer? Why or why not? What are the implications for your personal code of ethics?

3. Do you agree with the "correct" choices identified in the game? Why or why not? What are the implications for your personal code of ethics?

4. Did you learn anything else important from the game?

Assignment 1 Checklist:
