Microsoft is considered a monopolist company because it is the sole seller of its Windows product. Microsoft falls into the three main sources of a monopoly company : (1) the costs of production makes a single producer more efficient than a large number of producers; (2) The government gives a single firm the exclusive right to produce a good or service; (3) Microsoft is owned by a single firm.
