Project

The purpose of the final project in Methods of Research is threefold:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the broad theoretical underpinnings of empirical research, including research question formulation and hypothesis proposal.

2. Demonstrate an applied understanding of the quantitative research methods used in political science

3. Situate your research within the broader field of published empirical research

To those ends, your paper will consist of the following:

A brief overview of your research question and its importance
A literature review making use of at least 6 previously published articles related to your R.Q.
A set of proposed/null hypotheses related to your R.Q.
A Methods section outlining the process of collecting and (if applicable) manipulating data
A Results section presenting the results from your testing of the hypotheses
A Discussion and Conclusion section relating your results to the broader field of political science
A bibliography

By the end of this project you will have a paper that can be used as a jumping off point for future research, proof of research skills in applying to post-undergraduate schools/empirically-oriented jobs, and (hopefully) something you are proud of.
