In this module, you learned about the motivational techniques and processes utilized by leaders in motivating employees. The purpose of this discussion is to explore the factors in the workplace that motivate people, tools utilized by employees to measure satisfaction, and methods used in reinforcing behavior.

In order to gain a better understanding of the motivational aspect of human resource management, your goal in this discussion is to explore how employees are motivated differently at their jobs and the role leadership plays in motivation.

You will be asked to interview a co-worker, family member, friend, or fellow student to discuss the motivational techniques used to motivate them at their jobs. When you have finished your interview, summarize your answers making sure to address each point below in your post.

1. Identify the relationship of the person interviewed (e.g. co-worker, family member, friend, fellow student, etc.) and the nature of their work. Also inquire and state to whether they are part of the management team at their place of employment.

2. During your interview, determine what aspects of their work are motivating to the person, and what tends to demotivate them. Ask about a specific situation where the person felt their motivation increased and one where it decreased. Was their supervisor supportive or not? Explain the situation. Support your answer relating the situation both to specific motivational factors you have learned about and to at least ONE content perspective such asMaslow HierarchyorHerzberg Two-Factorperspectives, and at least ONE process perspective on motivation such asExpectancy Theory, Equity Theory, and Goal-Setting Theory. How and at what point did the person know they were satisfied with the outcome of their situation or not?

3. Last, ask the person how the person's supervisor supports desired behavior and what techniques are used to weaken undesired behavior. Do you agree with the strategies? Support your answer.
