Business Research Project- Part 1

Learning Team C Intellectual water is inspired by the way Mother Nature makes water, known as the hydrologic cycle. At Learning Team C, we simulate this process by vapor distilling water, making every drop as pure as the very first drop of rain (before it passes through pollutants, of course). If that's not smart enough, we then one-up Mother Nature by adding in electrolytes for a clean crisp taste. In today's society health is of number one concern. We market those who prefer water over other sugary drinks and provided them with a clean crisp taste they have come to expect.

Business Problem and Research Question

Based on recent sales reports, productivity appears to be different based on three daily shifts. To test this statement, we may first want to validate the observation. A hypothesis test will be decisive as to whether the productivity is different because of normal variation (by chance alone,) or whether there is statistical significance.

Productivity is abstract, so it is operationalized to be measure cases of product per hour.

Research Question: Is there a difference in productivity (DV) based on the production shift (IV)?

Hypothesis: Intellectual Water is a better water than competitors due to the use of vapor distilling.

Variable

The dependent business variable of Smart Company that we looked into is the water use efficiency. This is affected by other independent variables, one of which is, Single- Family Residential (SFR) per- capita water consumption. The SFR per- capita water consumption is the total amount of water resources from all supply sources. It is measured through the integration of SFR occupancy rates to the SFR sales. An increase in SFR per- capita water consumption means an increase in water use efficiency. High per- capita consumption will mean that more water is supplied and hence high water use efficiency is achieved. Different populations will therefore have different water use rates because of the varying SFR per- capita water consumption in this population.

Team Division

• Create a fictitious organization based on the dataset provided under Resources -Data Sets.

Identify one independent variable and one dependent variable based on the business. Operationalize these variables if they are too abstract to measure. (Juliana)

• Develop a real or realistic scenario for the introduction based on the company you chose and the two variables. Include a background, a business problem and the team's role of no more than 350 words. (Mitzi)

• Develop a research question from the two variables. (Mitzi)

• Use the Research Question Two Variable Handout for guidance. (Juliana)

• Create hypothesis statements based on the research question. (Dorian)
