Assignment

For this essay:

We've been reading the historical narrative, Isaac's Storm by Eric Larson. One of the things Larson is doing is casting doubt on Isaac Cline's later accounts of his heroism with regard to the 1900 Galveston hurricane. For this activity, do the following:

1. Pick a side: Do you think Isaac Cline acted heroically, or do you think he was actually to blame in some way for the massive death toll from the hurricane?

2. Find some evidence in the book: Think back on what you've read and find some good evidence from the book that supports your claim

3. Write a fully developed paragraph: Using the pattern listed above.

As we learned in class, all body paragraphs function the same way:

• Part 1: Topic Sentence (Topic sentences further the claim made in the thesis)
• Part 2: Background (This sentence provides background for clarity)
• Part 3: Evidence (quotes evidence)
• Part 4: Interpretation (explains what the evidence means and why it's relevant)
• Part 5: Transition (provides a link to the topic of the next paragraph).
