The World Trade Organization to the European Union and many more organizations work as multinational institutions. In recent years, we have learned about how the Euro zone has become compromised because of member states engaging in domestic policies without regard to the larger institution. Likewise, member states of the WTO have occasionally flaunted its free trade principles for domestic self-interest.

What benefit do these multinational institutions serve if they are unable to control the behavior of their member states?

Are they, on balance, a good thing?
