The World Wide Web had led to an enormous increase in the amount of information that is easily available to anyone with Internet access. References to Internet pages are becoming quite common in the scientific literature. One study examined Internet reference in articles in three prominent journals: the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), and Science.
