Question 1

As discussed earlier, it is common for businesses to change their structure or decide to start a new business. As you begin to research different business formations for this week's written assignment, where are you going to go for assistance? What are some good resources? Once you decide on the business form, how do you go about making the change? What is the process?

Respond to this...

If restructuring a current business then I would consult a business lawyer to check on any legal ramifications. Creating a new business and with the assistance from the Small Business Administration (SBA) can help an owner or owners with which business is best for you and the business. The SBA can demenstrate to owners how to implement a business formation and what the process is.

Question 2

The United States is a nation of many races, ethnicities, and nationalities. Many groups in this country have experienced discrimination. Think about discrimination you have experienced or witnessed and answer the following questions:

• What's the difference between individual and institutional discrimination? Be sure to give a specific example of each type of discrimination in your response.

• You are asked to come up with a plan to improve racial and ethnic relations in your community. What would your plan include? How would you address both individual and institutional discrimination in your plan? Explain.

Respond to this...

Individual discrimination occurs on a personal level. For example, when a person refuses to date someone of a certain race, this is individual discrimination. Institutional discrimination is far more widespread and affects large groups of people at once. For example, if a Christian church refuses to marry one of their members to a Muslim person, that is insitutional discrimination.

If I was trying to improve racial and ethnic relations in my community, I would begin by having cultural celebrations of all cultures

represented in my community. For example, my community includes many people of Scandinavian descent and many Hmong people. I would hold cultural celebrations where foods, music, traditional dress, etc., are presented and celebrated. I believe by celebrating other cultures, we learn more about our own and are less likely to discriminate against people of those cultures. This addresses mostly individual discrimination. In order to address insitutional discrimination, I would invite businesses, churches, schools, etc., to hold the same types of cultural celebrations.

Question 3

Rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock is an expansion of the classic game rock-paper-scissors. It operates on the same basic principle, but includes two additional weapons: "the lizard" and "Spock." See the graph below. Find a partner and play the game a few times. Please answer all of the questions below:

Is it difficult to keep track of all the rules?

Does the graph below do a good job of summarizing all the different relationships? Is there a better way of explaining all the different relationships?

How does this game compare to the usual rock-paper-scissors? In what ways are the dynamics of the games similar? In what ways are they different?

Respond to this...

It can be diffcult to keep track of all the rules at first but with playing it, you can remember what each does to the other. The chart I think does a good job at showing the relationships of the game and you can follow them all around to get the the next thing.

I think this game would be more interesting than just the regular rock-paper-scissors game because there are added things that make it interesting.

It's not just basic which some people don't always want that or they want something different because they have played the same thing over and over again. Plus you have more options and more ways to won or lose between the other person.
