First assignment - Decision case

This assessment item assesses the following learning outcomes:

  • Knowledge & Technical Skills (KS) - Demonstrate and apply integrated and advanced discipline and professional practice knowledge, including knowledge of relevant research principles and methods.
  • Higher Order Thinking Skills (HO) - Exercise creativity and intellectual independence and make informed decisions and judgements in planning, designing, and executing strategic and research-based responses to address real world issues and problems.

Purpose: Critical thinking  skills are highly valued in business. This is particularly true for accountants who are often tasked with suggesting solutions where there is no uncontested or objective answer to the problem they are faced with. This assessment item is intended to develop these skills.

DECISION CASE - INTANGIBLE ASSETS

According to Baruch Lev, "Wealth and growth in today's economy are driven primarily by intangible assets." Margaret Blair and Steven Wallman concur: "The factors that have become most important to business success and economic growth in developed economies in the twenty-first century are 'intangible' or nonphysical." Yet accounting ignores and obscures the key factors to business success and value creation. Conceptual Framework 2010 indicates that expenditure on intangibles that meets the definition of, and recognition criteria for, assets should be capitalised. However, AASB 138 specifically prohibits the recognition of internally developed brands, mastheads, publishing titles, customer lists and similar items. Do you think these views are conflict? Explain and give possible reasons for the AASB138 prohibition.

Second assignment - Presentation

  • Knowledge & Technical Skills (KS) - Demonstrate and apply integrated and advanced discipline and professional practice knowledge, including knowledge of relevant research principles and methods.

  • Be professional communicators in an intercultural context (PC) - Use information literacy skills, and communicate effectively and professionally in oral forms, appropriate for diverse purposes and contexts.

Purpose: Effective oral communication skills are highly valued in business. This is particularly true for accountants who are often tasked with suggesting solutions where there is no uncontested or objective answer to the problem they are faced with. This assessment item is intended to develop these skills.

Need solution in 500 words + presentation + script to read the presentation.
