Final Project Instructions

Review the list of industry topics and select one. You will find that many of these topics are interrelated and discussion of more than one listed below is bound to occur, yet choose a primary topic and then relate it to others as appropriate.

Choose one of the following topics:

Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 and 7
Affordable Care Act (ACA)  mHealth
Argonaut Project  Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH)
ARRA Meaningful Use (MU) Patient Engagement
Beacon Community Program Personal Health Records/Patient Portal
Bioinformatics Personalized Medicine
Clinical Decision Support (CDSS ) Population Health
Cloud Computing and HIT Privacy and Security Management in HIT

Disease Management Regional Health Information Organization or Exchange (RHIO or RHIE)
Disease Registries Rural Health (HIT in Rural Health)
Genomics Surveillance
Health Information Exchange (HIE) Telehealth/Telemedicine Programs/Initiatives
Healthcare Data Analytics/Big Data Watson and Healthcare

You must fully cover the topic, the technology to enable it, and its combined impact on health care. Be sure to include:

  • A full analysis of the industry topic as it relates to HIT including its history, purpose, scope, and intended benefits
  • A profile of more than one health care organization embarking on a project involving this particular topic
  • Clear identification of the vendor/vendors that are supplying the technology for the health care organization
  • An alignment to other applicable topics covered throughout this course discussed in your paper

A variety of both primary and secondary sources must be used in obtaining information. Though vendor and health care organizations' websites may provide a starting point, an in-depth literature search of the topic should be conducted. University of Miami Library journal articles should be included in your list of references to support your analysis.
