Development aid should be focused on developing industries in donor countries because industrial improvement contributes to economic growth and simple financial aid keep developing countries from self-sustaining economy.
Many developed countries provide development aid through the various institutions, but most developing countries are still struggling with poverty and low economic growth rate. Some developed countries got miraculous economic growth such as Japan, Germany and South Korea because other countries gave them development aid. What is the difference? What is the problem with development aid today? On my assignment, I will analyze how development aid contributed to economic growth in those developed countries and why it does not work well in developing countries today.
Today, any country cannot develop without international relationship, so foreign aid is imperative factor for economic growth in developing countries. For example, there is a big gap in the economic growth between North Korea and South Korea due to development aid. I believe strongly in the value of development aid in economic growth.
GDP and economic growth rate are available on the World Bank website. The data of development aid is available on the OECD, AidData.org and each governments' website. Also, some books describe the detail of foreign aid such as Dead Aid by Dambisa Mayo.
