Create one paragraph (approximately 200 words) to explain your understanding of the poem and to discuss your reasons for choosing the poem.

Points to Consider

1. Each poem has a speaker. This is not the poet but a speaker created by the poet. Who is the speaker in the poem?

2. What idea is the speaker in the poem trying to convey?

3. How is each poem organized?

4. What conclusion is reached at the end of each poem?

5. What literary techniques are used in each poem?

6. What poetic devices are used in each poem?

7. What do you like or dislike about the poem?

Formatting Guidelines

1. Double space all lines throughout the paragraph.

2. Use Times New Roman font and size 12 print throughout the paragraph.

3. Do not use bold print, italics, or underlining. Include poem titles in quotation marks.

4. Include a title that relates to the content of the paragraph (centered on the page).

5. Include a four-part heading in the left margin to include your name, my name, the course name, and the date. Include your last name and the page number in the top right corner of the page and in running header format. Access the following link and scroll to the end of the page to view the heading sample:

6. Write a minimum of 200 words (one paragraph).

7. Indent the paragraph.

8. Be mindful that a paragraph should include a topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding sentence.
