Students may seek technical assistance in creating their accounting system, however should design the system independently using their accounting knowledge and skills to ensure all relevant accounts and items are able to be entered and appropriate system tasks identified as required. Students should:

• Seek instructions as to organisational requirements for their accounting system

• Design a system that integrates the following:
- General Ledger
- Chart of Accounts
- Relevant Customer Information
- Suppliers
- Inventory Items
- Expenses
- Reporting Requirements of GST should be met
- Ability to produce Reports
- Ability to roll over Accounting Information
- Ability to edit or add new data fields as required

Once the system is designed and the organisational requirements clear, students should seek assistance using relevant accounting software or spreadsheet programs to create the system.

ASSESSMENT 1 - ASSESSOR INSTRUCTIONS

ASSESSMENT 2 - STUDENT INFORMATION

For this assessment, you are required to use your accounting system from Project 1 to follow 3 months of business transactions. This should be from the same business as Project 1. If you are using the example of Ed's Whitegoods, then you should use the information found in appendices 1-4, which states Ed's Business details and transactions from October 2013 - December 2013 Inclusive.

Students should use their accounting systems to do the following:
• Firstly, gather and organise any relevant data to be entered
• Use the general journal to make adjustments as required
• Double check the system by testing the data
• Any processing errors should be identified and corrected
• Record all items as listed in the accounting period, making adjustments and additions as required
• Ensure that the chart of accounts and the system is meeting the requirements of the organisation as detailed in Project 1

Finally, you are to perform a financial rollover using your accounting system. For students using the example of Ed's Whitegoods, your data concludes at the end of December 2013, hence you will need to perform a financial rollover into January 2014.

ASSESSMENT 2 - ASSESSOR INSTRUCTIONS

These instructions must be followed when assessing the student in this unit. The checklist on the following page is to be completed for each student. Please refer to separate mapping document for specific details relating to alignment of this task to the unit requirements.

For this assessment, you are required to use your accounting system from Project 1 to follow 3 months of business transactions. This should be from the same business as Project 1. This information is to be handed to each student to outline the assessment requirements

For this assessment, you are required to use your accounting to produce several accounting reports for your chosen organisation. These should include:
• Financial position and financial performance reports
• GST Reports
• Reports to ensure subsidiary ledgers reconcile with general ledger
• Reports to ensure that the bank account reconciles with the bank statement (Complete this for all 3 reporting periods Oct, Nov & Dec)

Along with the above reports, you are to ensure that system integrity is maintained
• Ensure that you have at least 2 back ups every time you make changes (the back ups should be submitted along with your final file)
• Have at least 1 back up on removable data (USB is preferred) in case of damage to the PC
• Retain any transaction details you have received and record these on your PC and on the removable data that contains your system back up

Students should hand in the following for this Project:
• Completed Reports as described above
• Final Data and System with all changes
• USB containing back up of data and transaction records

• Describe the function of OH&S in the workplace
- How does this relate to Information technology?
- Discuss some potential risks associated with computer workstation setup, work organisation and any other relevant risks associated with computer / desk work.
- What is the purpose of antidiscrimination legislation, and what policies can a workplace set up to ensure compliance with this legislation?
- What legislation applies to OH&S in the workplace

• Critically review your last 3 assessments. What financial legislation impacted on your accounting techniques / reporting requirements / system administration?
- Discuss any other relevant financial legislation involved in implementing a chart of accounts

ASSESSMENT 4 - ASSESSOR INSTRUCTIONS
