Alpine Designs produces three different styles of filing cabinets. In reviewing the ending inventory balance for the year, Spencer Paul determined that the inventory consisted of 3,000 units of standing cabinets, 2,500 units of vertical cabinets, and 2,750 units of the sliding cabinets. Paul determined that the market value of the sliding cabinets had fallen to a point that Alpine might need to revalue the inventory. Alpine uses the Lifo method of inventory in conjunction with the lower-of-cost or market methods. Additional information states that teh value of the total cabinet inventory was still above costs.
