A great many civil conflicts occur as a result of a struggle over resources and/or a perception of a government that does not bend to the will of the people. Using lectures and readings, explain how a lack of democratic institutions and extreme poverty have contributed to the conflicts in Sudan and South Sudan. Would efforts towards instilling democracy and eradicating poverty in this country also end the protracted conflicts in Sudan and South Sudan? What could members of the international community do in order to "export" democracy and development to these two countries?
